Windmill AllotmentsThis Intergenerational Project brings together wheelchair-bound elderly from the local care home, Windmill Lodge, and local volunteers to befriend one another, allotment garden together and enjoy this beautiful space. Through its volunteer training programme and allotment gardening, the project promotes healthy living, education, water conservation and working with the elderly. The project uses carefully-chosen local volunteers and has run successfully for 2 years. Elderly users have said “It is the highlight of my week” and “It really is a fantastic idea – sharing a plot makes sense”.

The application for use of Plot 21 for the project was first discussed with Thames Water’s property department in 2006, formally submitted on their advice in early 2007 when the plot was vacant, and refreshed in 2008 and 2009.

We the undersigned ask Thames Water to:-

  • Approve the use of plot 21 for the Intergenerational Project.
  • Recognise that the project reflects the themes of Thames Water’s Corporate and Social Responsibility Policy.
  • Support this long-standing application.
